US-SI!
Unconditional Solidarity – Solidaridad Incondicional!
A global movement
where members commit with a vision of unconditional solidarity to the
well-being of individuals and the biotic community by making vows to offer
mutual support to those in need.
US refers to the pronoun, “us” meaning that though there are differences
between species and demographic groups, each individual is connected in complex
and equal relationships with all life. There is no “them” versus “us,” but only
“us.” Each group is not a “we” separated and acting upon others, but a “us”
acted upon through life-giving relationships with all others. Perhaps it means
that we go beyond a “We” symbolizing the control of human actors and drivers of
domination, and move to “US,” where we decenter ourselves and our individualism
and awake to how we are the receivers of infinite relationships of love and
accountability. The earth and her beings happens to us, and we must make
“happening places” in return.
Human solidarity in daily life is is conditioned and negotiated.
Individuals take care of themselves and must make decisions how much they can
come to the aid of every individual, species, or community in need. The vision
of unconditional solidarity means that we constantly question our negotiated
solidarities and that unconditional solidarity is always on the table in that
individuals make a commitment to move towards and embody a life based on the
well-being of each and every life. US forms when the question, “How do you
suffer?” is asked of beings who wish to live, and live well. Engaging in
unconditional solidarity is a mindfulness practice to always remember that
human life is connected to all others, affirming no them, only us. It leads to
free flowing compassion that expresses itself in commitment and support, often
expressed as specific vows on behalf of others.
SI refers to the Spanish equivalent of unconditional solidarity
(solidaridad incondicional), and also to the action component of solidarity by
individuals who say: “Yes! I am one with all life, Yes I commit to this
mindfulness practice, Yes I vow to take action, and finally, I say yes to life,
experiencing ever present grief, beauty, and joy
A la querida vida de este mundo, la tierra nos dice que sí, y a cambio,
debemos decir SÍ - Solidaridad
Incondicional!
